Description

Enjoy a festive twist on classic Greek gyros with this easy air fryer chicken gyros recipe, served with homemade tzatziki. Perfect for a quick Christmas dinner or holiday gathering.

Ingredients

  • 500g boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated
  • 150g Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix chicken with olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  2. Marinate for at least 30 minutes or up to 4 hours.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 180°C (350°F).
  4. Place chicken in air fryer basket and cook for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway.
  5. While chicken cooks, make tzatziki by combining grated cucumber, yogurt, dill, garlic, lemon juice, and salt.
  6. Warm pita breads in the air fryer for 1 minute.
  7. Slice chicken and serve in pita breads with tzatziki, tomatoes, and onions.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon to the chicken marinade.
  • Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  • Drain excess liquid from grated cucumber to prevent watery tzatziki.
